The Australian Centre for Financial Studies (ACFS) today celebrates its 10th anniversary.

Launched in 2005 (as the Melbourne Centre for Financial Studies), ACFS aims to bridge the gap between research and industry – facilitating industry-relevant, rigorous research and independent commentary. Through its research network of academics, industry practitioners, regulators and policy makers, ACFS promotes thought leadership in the financial sector.
Since its inception in 2005, ACFS has:
  • conducted over 225 events, bringing together industry, government and academic practitioners;
  • dispensed $1.7m in research funds through the ACFS Academic Research Grant scheme to academics of our consortium and associate universities, generating the publication of 75 refereed journal articles;
  • published research papers and independent commentary from ACFS and its academic associates in numerous forms, including submissions to public inquiries, discussion papers, op-eds, journal articles, conference papers, event presentations etc;
  • driven major research programs, including Funding Australia’s Future (now in its third stage), the Melbourne Mercer Global Pension Index (now in its seventh edition), the CSIRO-Monash Superannuation Research Cluster, the Australian Equities Database, and the forthcoming Financial Integration in the Asia-Pacific project;
  • developed a network of highly influential individuals as part of its Industry Advisory Committee, its three Research Reference Groups (in Banking, Funds Management and Insurance), and its Centre Associates;
  • attracted a growing number of industry sponsors and supporters; and
  • established a strong presence in the media and wider financial services community.
ACFS would like to thank its consortium members Monash University, RMIT and Finsia, its associate members the University of Melbourne and Victoria University, and its partners AIST, the Victorian Government, Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, NAB, Austock Group and Suncorp for their generous support.
Further, ACFS would like to thank all those who have contributed to its goal of knowledge creation and transfer through their participation in ACFS research and events.
ACFS looks forward to another 10 years of thought leadership in the financial sector.
