Session 1 – Governance and Regulation of Financial Institutions: Emerging Trends
Following the Global Financial Crisis, there are significant developments occurring in approaches to financial regulation, aimed at reducing the problem of a recurrence of such an event, and also reducing the risk to taxpayers from financial institution failures. Changes to capital requirements as part of prudential regulation, deposit insurance arrangements, scope of activities of depository institutions, governance and remuneration arrangements, and improved planning for dealing with failing institutions (including requirements for “living wills”) are among the issues on the agenda.
In this session, participants will hear the views of, and have opportunity to question, leading figures in the financial sector regarding current initiatives and likely future developments. Four panellists will each speak for 10-15 minutes leaving 30-50 minutes for debate and discussion.
