In April/May 2009, two large ASX – listed companies which dominated the agri-business Managed Investment Scheme sector were placed into administration, leading to significant losses for investors in those companies and the schemes they operated.
On April 8, 2010, ASIC released Consultation paper 133 “Agribusiness managed investment schemes: Improving disclosure for retail investors”.
Professor Kevin Davis, will provide a concise overview of the demise of one of these companies, Great Southern Limited, and identify a number of inadequacies in current investor protection arrangements, and this will be followed by a group discussion on the ASIC consultation paper.
