Speaker: Dr Rodney Maddock, Adjunct Professor of Economics, Monash University and Vice Chancellor’s Fellow, Victoria University

The terms of reference for the Inquiry are very broad. The changes to the financial system since the Wallis Inquiry, and those resulting from the financial crisis, set much of the frame but clearly the inquiry has a forward looking brief. its recommendations will shape the how the system evolves.

The talk will concentrate on what Rod sees as the main issues and where Murray is likely to settle on in each of them, including issues of competition, funding, superannuation, regulation and technology.

About the Speaker:

Rod is an Adjunct Professor at Monash University and was a senior executive at the Commonwealth Bank for the last decade after earlier stints as Chief Economist for the Business Council of Australia, and Head of Economic Policy in the Victorian Cabinet Office. Prior to that, Rod was one of Australia’s leading academic economists as Professor of Economics at Latrobe University and as a Professor of Economics at La Trobe University.

He is currently working on a book on the history of the Australian economy.
