The Australian Centre for Financial Studies announced today that Amy Auster will step down from her role as Executive Director of the Centre, to take up a new role as Deputy Secretary (Economic) at the Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance. Ms Auster joined ACFS in late 2014 as Deputy Director, and became Executive Director in July 2015.
ACFS Advisory Board Chairman Maria Wilton said, “Amy has leveraged her commercial acumen and business and academic relationships to grow the Centre’s contribution and profile. The Financial Integration in Asia project and Stage 4 of Funding Australia’s Future – focusing on Fintech – will make a lasting contribution to policy development and industry practice in key areas of financial services.”
“We congratulate Amy on her appointment to the Victorian Government and look forward to working with her in the future.”
Ms Auster said, “Leading the Centre has been a tremendously rewarding experience, and I am grateful for the support that Monash University and the Centre’s strong group of dedicated stakeholders have provided to the Centre and myself over this time. It has been a real privilege to work alongside Kevin Davis, our Research Director, Maria Wilton, our Advisory Board Chair, our committee chairs, and associated academics such as Deborah Ralston and Christine Brown. I am particularly indebted to Jeremy Duffield, immediate past Chair of the Centre, for his guidance and wise counsel over the past few years.”
“The dedicated team at the Centre have delivered so much over the past year, and I know the Centre will continue in its mission of providing thought leadership in financial services by working across industry, government and academia.”
“I look forward to maintaining my association with the Centre and Monash University in an adjunct capacity, and am confident that the Centre will move from strength to strength.”
Professor Rodney Maddock, Adjunct Professor at Monash University, will serve as acting Director while a search is underway. Professor Maddock, a longtime associate of ACFS, is currently the academic lead on the Financial Integration in the Asia Pacific project at the Centre. He is also a Vice Chancellor’s Fellow at Victoria University, President of the Economics Society of Australia (Victoria branch) and Director at CEDA, and was previously a senior executive at Commonwealth Bank. Professor Maddock will formally take over as Director on 15 August, 2016.
